Construction of the extra floor will form part of the $150 million stage three and four redevelopment of the hospital.
The clinical services building was the main component of the $91.3 million stage one and two redevelopment.
On Friday Member for Dubbo and Deputy Premier Troy Grant confirmed Dubbo Hospital’s transformation was continuing.
Initially, stage three and four redevelopment will deliver a contemporary and expanded surgical inpatient unit, the refurbishment of the old maternity building for the medical records department and education facilities.
“A carefully staged approach is being taken to deliver the next phase of Dubbo Hospital’s major transformation to ensure minimal disruption to patient services during the construction process,” Mr Grant said.
“The schematic design, which will be unveiled in the coming months, will show where these new services will be delivered.
“Once the schematic design is finalised, detailed design planning and consultation will continue to determine the layout of each room and clinical space.”
Mr Grant said consultation and planning with staff and clinicians continued to be part of the schematic design process.
Stage three and four redevelopment will also deliver a new emergency department and short-stay unit, medical imaging unit, a “critical care floor” comprising of a coronary care and stroke unit, an intensive care and high dependency unit, a cardiac catheterisation laboratory, ambulatory care centre, main entrance and drop-off zone, and extra car parking.
Construction of the extra floor of the new clinical services building will begin after the awarding of the tender.
Stage three and four redevelopment of Dubbo Hospital is being funded by the NSW Government.
On Friday Mr Grant said planning for a cancer centre at Dubbo Hospital was underway with “more detail” to be released in November.
