More than 120 of the best junior male and female bowlers from across the state were in attendance while there was also a huge number of spectators and supporters.
The Zoe 4 Green side consisted of Jono Davis (Dubbo Railway), Tyrone Pennell (Rylstone), Ben Cox (Orange City), Tim Walsh (Nyngan), Max Hannelly (West Dubbo), Hayden Barrow (Dubbo City) and Brad Roberts (Orange City) and won the prestigious shield for the second time in its history after winning at Port Macquarie in 2010.
In the three associated disciplines, Zone 4 again featured strongly, winning one gold medal and two bronze. The Fours team of Tim Walsh, Max Hannelly, Hayden Barrow and Brad Cox won gold, and the Pairs duo of Tyrone Pennell and Ben Cox, as well as the Singles player Jono Davis, won bronze.
The Bowls NSW officials in attendance were full of praise for Club Dubbo and the manner in which the event was run.
Junior bowls in the western region is strengthening, as evidenced by the inclusion of two additional Zone 4 sides. Although not featuring in the medal count, both these sides comprised younger bowlers with a very bright future in the game.
Club Dubbo has indicated to Bowls NSW that it is willing to stage the event again in 2017, and if this comes to pass, it will be another significant sporting event for the city of Dubbo.
