YOUTH ADVISORY COUNCIL
I’d like to encourage young people from the Barwon electorate to consider applying for a position on the 2017 NSW Youth Advisory Council and get involved in Government decision making. Council members are sought to represent the diversity of young people living in NSW in terms of locality and gender, Aboriginality, and cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The Youth Advisory Council is a powerful way of ensuring the voice of young people in NSW is heard loud and clear. Importantly, the insights provided by the Council helps inform the development of policies and programs that affect young people. The 12 member Council meets regularly throughout the year to monitor and evaluate policies and legislations which affect young people. Applications close at 5:00pm Friday 30 September 2016. For more information and application forms please visit the Advocate for Children and Young People’s website www.acyp.nsw.gov.au or by call 9248 0970.

BOOSTING TOURISM
A reminder to tourism operators in Barwon that the first of the Digital Webinar Series starts this week as part of the NSW First Program, offering operators the opportunity to learn about the importance of digital marketing channels. The 2016 workshops delivered by the State’s tourism and major events agency Destination NSW, are aimed at providing tourism operators across Regional NSW with product development advice and industry resources to help grow tourism across the State. The Digital Webinar Series represents a wonderful opportunity for our tourism industry to learn how to make the most of online platforms and how operators can tap into the power of digital space to boost their business. Our beautiful region has so much on offer and we must ensure that our local tourism operators provide the very best products and experiences to visitors to maintain a competitive edge.
To register for any or all of the webinars, go to: www.destinationnsw.com.au/workshops.
NEW POLICE RECRUITS
Local Area Commands in the Barwon electorate will welcome 17 new probationary constables following last week’s Police Academy attestation parade of Class 328. On behalf of the community I welcome our newest officers to the region and thank them for dedicating their career to tirelessly protecting our communities.
I know the training they have completed at the Police Academy together with the on-the-job training that our officers will undertake at stations around the electorate will ensure they are prepared for this important role.
Policing can be a very challenging career that involves encountering the best and worst of humanity and I’m very proud our community will benefit from the enthusiasm of an officer starting their new job on the beat. Class 328 includes 208 recruits who have attested as Probationary Constable, will commence on-the-job training and will continue distance learning before graduating with an Associate Diploma in Policing Practice. These men and women will join more than 208 officers who have become sworn officers of the NSW Police Force since 2011. The breakdown of new recruits servicing the Barwon Electorate will be:
Castlereagh LAC – 2 (Coonamble Office); Darling River LAC – 1; Orana LAC – 7; Barwon LAC – 4 (Moree based but serving Narrabri, Bellata and Wee Waa); Barrier LAC – 3.
THUMBS UP
Thumbs up to Wayne ‘Bomber’ Thrift of the Coolah Kangaroos who has been CRL’s Volunteer of the Year for the 2016 season. Wayne has been involved in the game for over 40 years as a player, coach and official and is a passionate advocate for rugby league and an integral part of the Kangaroos’ team. Well done Wayne, it’s great to see you recognised for your years of dedication.
