Instead, the club’s 20 Rotarians doubled their efforts to pay for it, knowing how much it would help patients admitted to Dubbo Hospital’s Emergency Department (ED).
On Tuesday they sent a delegation to the hospital to confirm funds were in hand to cover the $47,855.50 cost of the equipment that will help doctors fast-track diagnosis and treatment.
Club president Sandy Birkett-Williams said the money had been raised through a trivia night, sales of a new book written by club member Barry Brebner, catering at city events and community donations.
The Rotaract Club of Dubbo City donated about $16,000 from its 2016 Dubbo Antiques and Collectables Fair to the “ED Project”.
ED clinical director Dr David Lord Cowell thanked the Rotarians after reporting that “ultrasound is increasingly at the forefront of emergency medicine”.
