Paul Hughes has long had a love of dancing, and his two children Jackson, 12, and Georgia, 9, have also adopted his love of the stage.
And, Jackson has such talent that he recently won Junior Tap Championship for the fourth time.
“It was a very good competition,” Jackson said of his performance at the recent Orange Eisteddfod.
When asked what the key to a good performance was, Jackson gave a considered answer.
“Some people like personality, but I think all you can do is keep it on a high level and do your best,” he said.
Jackson’s talents don’t stop at tap dancing, he also does jazz, contemporary and hip hop.
While Mr Hughes may not dance as much as he once did, he said he still loves pulling on his tap shoes for Carillon Theatrical Society productions.
“The last time I danced was when they did Wizard of Oz,” he said. “I was the Tin Man, the kids were munchkins.”
Georgia has also been tap dancing at JLD Dance Studio in Bathurst with Jackson for the last five years.
“I like tap dancing because I like having fun,” she said.
The experienced dancer said she had a simple trick to beat her nerves during the Wizard of Oz.
“In the first show I got a bit nervous, but I just danced as good as I could,” she said.
Wife and mother Victoria Hughes said she has loved seeing her husband and their children share a common interest.
“It was really lovely seeing them all up there on stage, it was really nice,” she said.
“It makes you proud when they’ve all got a talent they can share.”
The trio said they would all love to dance together again some time soon.
