John Schofield, Arnold Gillespie, Danny Carnevale and Don Sullivan proved too good as they beat last year’s champions, Nathan Colless, Cooper Pike, Richard Clarke and Tim Farrell in a boilover final.
A record 28 teams competed for the $4400 prize-money, with visiting teams coming from Lithgow, Blayney, Nyngan, Gulgong and Narromine.
As well, local sides from Macquarie, City and Railway, joined a good listing from West Dubbo.
After the preliminary four rounds, there were four undefeated teams, who then had to play off for the major end of the purse.
The Narromine side caught everyone out in upsetting the defending titleholders for the win.
Two teams from Dubbo City played for third and Noel Dobe, Gus Collett, Steve Parish and Matt Goodwin outlasted Ian Hobson, Kurt Smith, Dick Cobcroft and Terry Smith.
Anthony Brown, the bowls’ manager at Club Dubbo, did a great job in organising the tournament, and had wonderful support from the greens and bar staff, as well as the many volunteers within the club.
Mr Brown expressed his thanks to the event sponsor, Sainsbury Automotive.
Sainsbury Automotive owner Terry Green and sales manager Graham Miller, were on hand to present the winners’ cheques and they expressed their appreciation of how the tournament was conducted.
