The feature event of Monday’s eight-race meeting is shaping as an open one but Hawkesbury trainer Wayne Croft will be hopeful his charge Vite Loni can use the event as a chance to return to the winner’s circle.
Viye Loni hasn’t won since September 19 last year but he is an experienced metro galloper with multiple starts at Rosehill and Hawkesbury.
Since a five-week freshen up early this year his best result is a third at Hawkesbury on May 19 while his last start produced a ninth-place finish in a Benchmark 78 event at Rosehill.
Monday’s Cup will be run over 1600m and Anthony Cavallo will be in the saddle of the five-year-old Croft-trained gelding, which jumps from barrier one.
Dubbo’s Peter Nestor will also make the trip to Forbes with Private Taber set to jump from barrier barrier eight with Rachael Hunt in the saddle.
The seven-year-old is one of few gallopers in the event which hasn’t scored a win recently, with Scott Collings’ benchmark 81 rated Ultima Chance coming in after winning at both the Sapphire Coast and Cessnock since the start of June.
Greg Ryan’s booking also boosts the chances of Ultima Chance, while other hopes include Chris Heywood’s Leucura and Jim Scobie’s last start winner Zero To Ten.
Monday’s meeting starts at 12.40pm, with the Forbes Cup leaving the barriers at 4.20pm.
