Twenty-year-old Watson has been a shining light in an otherwise disappointing season at Bondi and on Thursday night played a key role in the morale-boosting 32-16 win over the Brisbane Broncos.
Starting at five-eighth alongside Mitchell Pearce, Watson had one of his best moments in the 27th minute when he laid on a try for boom winger Latrell Mitchell with a neat offload after creating a three-on-two. He enjoyed a solid game from there out before exiting the match after roughly an hour due to a knee complaint.
“It just got twisted a but but he was almost ready to go back on,” Roosters coach Trent Robinson said in the post-match press conference. “I think he’ll be right, we’ve got a long turnaround until the Monday night game so I’m hoping he’ll be right.”
