The new fence will be a post chain arrangement more suitable for parking, Western Plains Regional Council’s manager landcare services Lynton Auld said.
“This part of Bligh Street is unrestricted parking and has a lot of overflow parking from the Riverdale shopping centre and the CBD,” Mr Auld said.
“The existing steel post fence is in quite poor condition caused as parking cars have accidentally knocked and damaged the fence over time.”
The new fence would be more forgiving if nudged, Mr Auld said, and the new ironbark post and chain arrangement would complement the adjoining Tracker Riley Cycleway.
Work to replace the fence will begin on Monday, August 1 and is expected to take one week to complete.
Fencing contractors will be working in 100 metre sections at a time and parking will still be available on either side of the work area.
