The issue is on the agenda for Western Plains Regional Council’s July Ordinary Meeting on Wednesday night.
However, while council has labelled their ten week trial of the three bin system as a success, the majority of comments on the Daily Liberal Facebook page are against the idea.
A post-trial survey found 76 per cent supported, or at least did not oppose, the introduction of an organics collection service.
But Lee Barrier, who said he was in the trail, had a different view.
“It was an absolute frustrating trial that proved to be pointless. Instead we had food rotting in a rubber bin, it is honestly just a matter of health and safety now. Our entire street smelled like a garbage tip,” he said.
Others suggested the third bin should be an optional service.
“I think the current service should remain with green waste added as an opt-in service, paid for by those who use it.. If residents can apparently pay an annual fee for an additional garbage bin to be collected, surely a similar system could be done with green waste?” Hannah Gannon said.
Jeremy Ellis wrote council should introduce the service at its own risk.
“The people of Dubbo will revolt like never before if it's forced onto them,” he said.
Former Dubbo councilor Greg Mohr said once again the people of Dubbo had spoken and not been heard by council.
“This is bad for Dubbo and will only create illegally rubbish dumping, people taking their rubbish to park bins and other privately owned bins. In summer the smell will be horrendous let alone the flies,” he said.
Mr Mohr said without councillors there was no one to “voice everyone’s objection to this pathetic introduction of the third green waste bin”.
Those who were for the bin- such as David Anthony who said he knew others who also supported the idea- were significantly outnumbered in the comments.
