Now in its 15th year, the Cup honours a man who had strong ties to both schools before passing away 17 years ago.
The 2016 edition begins with the girls and boys soccer on Wednesday afternoon and Dubbo College sports co-ordinator Bec May said the competition is one both schools always look forward to.
“It’s fun but it's also very competitive and it’s good to showcase the talents of both the schools to the community,” she said.
“We drew two years ago but they (St John’s) retained the Cup and last year they won it outright so we’ll be trying hard.”
While St John’s have reigned supreme in recent years, their sports co-ordinator Dave McAlister isn’t so confident this time around.
He said his school has its usual strengths in sports like tennis, soccer and rugby league but is expecting an even battle over the coming weeks.
“We’re going alright but going through a bit of a rebuilding phase,” he said.
“I think Senior Campus will be a lot stronger this year.”
McAlister described the Cup competition as “unique” with the two schools playing against each other in 10 different events during the course of the coming weeks.
The school which wins the most sports takes home the Cup and Loris Eggleton, the wife of Ken, is normally always on hand to watch the schools battle it out.
“It is unique and Loris always enjoyed the phone call this time of year because she likes to attend as much as she can,” he said.
This year will also feature a new sport, with Ladies League Tag to be contested for the first time.
The Ken Eggleton Cup action begins on Wednesday from 4pm with both soccer matches played at St John’s before the tennis and touch football on Thursday afternoon.
The netball and basketball will be played on August 4 at Sportsworld while the date for the League Tag and rugby league, both to be played at Caltex Park, is yet to be confirmed.
