Medway will move to Canberra in the coming weeks, robbing the local association of one of its hardest workers.
Medway has been playing the sport for roughly 20 years while he has also been secretary and treasurer in more recent times.
“The Dan Medways of this world don’t come along all that often and to say that he will be huge loss to Dubbo Basketball would be an understatement to say the least,” DBA president Carolyn Blliards said.
“As the current president of the association I would like to add that Dan has been such an asset to our association, his contribution to the board has been a huge blessing and many Dubbo resident basketballers have benefited greatly from his efforts.”
Billiards wasn’t the only one to comment with DBA veteran and well-respected local basketball identity Peter Hargreaves reiterating the fact that Medway will be missed both on and off the court.
“Dan is one of those special types who quietly gets the job done without a lot of fanfare, never one to look for thanks and always happy to help out,” he said.
“An important and valued player with the Rams who always led by example and was well respected by all team members and opposition players as well.”
Medway played down much of the praise, but confessed he will try and stay involved with the DBA.
“I will (miss it), but I’ll try to stay in touch in some respect, I haven’t got that figured out just yet but I will miss it,” he said.
Medway will make his final appearance for the winless Dubbo Rams this weekend when they take on Queanbeyan in the penultimate round of the 2016 Waratah State League.
“The boys are pretty pumped for the last game,” Medway said.
“We heard Illawarra beat Queanbeyan so that shows us they’re not so out of reach so we’re all pumped to finish off well.”
It’s not just the basketball community which will miss Medway, who was also a more than handy all-rounder for the Macquarie Cricket Club for a number of years.
