It has been a massive year for the centre the NSW Police Indoor Cricket Games being played in May, the NSW Country Cyclones v ACT Junior Rockets weekend and also the huge success of the Australian Junior Championships. The big events don’t stop after this weekend with round two of the ACT BBI Indoor Championships coming to town in August while in September the BBI Country Finals will be played out at Dubbo for the first time.
This weekend, the local Western Stars meet the Charlestown Crushers and the Maitland Panthers in each of the four grades.
In the Men’s Division One, the Stars will be keen to bounce back after being comprehensively defeated by each team last round but they will be without Steve and Mat Skinner.
Dubbo young guns Henry Railz, Brock Larance and Adlai Shipp are all expected to make the stup up to the top grade to link up with the likes of talented all-rounders Wade Burrowes, Aidan Bennewith, Jordan Peacock, Justin Knudsen and Dan Holland in the Division 1 side.
For the young Division 2 side, a pair of wins this weekend would secure their place at the top of the ladder.
Railz, Shipp and Larance will be joined by the likes of Tom Barber, Bailey Edmunds, Tom Atlee, Mitch Russo, Mitch Grey and Tom Nelson.
The Division 3 side is also near the top of the ladder and has the advantage of having a game in hand on the rest of the competition as they look to qualify for the finals for the first time in eight years.
Captain Graeme Allen will again be a key figure while Kevin Newbold and youngsters Mitch Lincoln and Jackson Peacock will also be important.
The Masters team has looked ominous but has failed to get across the line on most occasions.
Marty Nelson and Al Lloyd will return after missing round two at Port Macquarie but Dave Glasson and Michael Wood will be unavailable.
Heath Larance has been dominant with the bat to date, scoring 70 runs from 5 bats, while Mark Dee has been providing great spark with his sharp bowling and Darren Davies will be keen to add some extra horsepower down the order.
Matches begin from 11am on Saturday at SportsWorld with the last games expected to finish by 5pm.
