World-renowned Elvis impersonator Max Pellicano will perform the Elvis to the Max 25th Anniversary Australian Concert Tour in Dubbo on September 7, and said it’s a must-see whether you’re an Elvis fan or not.
“I just think he was a music icon and he came at the right time back in the 50s and then I think it was just his personality and people just took to him,” Pellicano said.
“They loved his music and people followed his life.
“He was a very poor kid growing up in the south and then he made it really, really big. He really lived the American dream.”
Pellicano came to Elvis impersonating in a round about way.
He was playing the Elvis-type character of Conrad Birdie in Bye Bye Birdie when a promoter spotted him and asked him to do a Aloha from Hawaii tribute show.
The rest is history, and Pellicano said he is honoured to keep the King alive.
“For me it’s the music but I love the character, I love the costumes, I love the personality on stage,” he said.
“I just feel like I was a lot like him, I have a lot of the same way of the same way of looking at life.
“I just have fun with it.”
The 25th anniversary tour brings all of the glitz and glamour of the King to life on the Dubbo stage, from the costumes down to the guitars.
Pellicano will be the only “yankee” on stage, as he tours with his “sensational” all-Australian band.
The show will bring together Elvis’ greatest performances from his concert tours: Elvis at Madison Square Garden and Aloha from Hawaii.
It’s not Pellicano’s first time playing the Dubbo Regional Theatre, and he said he can’t wait to return.
“Yeah, it’s going to be great,” he said.
“We play a lot of really cool country towns and the people really enjoy it.
“I’ve got a lot of friends in Dubbo so looking forward to coming up there and having a nice relaxing couple of days and then I think the next day I’m going to go and check out that zoo.”
