The 2016 event came to a close on the weekend, with huge crowds turning out at Dubbo Sportsworld to see the world’s best young indoor players in action.
“We wouldn’t hesitate in bringing another event back to Dubbo,” Cricket Australia’s Manager of Indoor Cricket, Paul Milo told the Daily Liberal on Monday.
“They are highly sought after events now though, people understand the benefits of an event like this.”
The event not only gave locals a glimpse of some hugely talented cricketers, it also injected an estimated $1 million into the local economy.
Milo also stated he had been overwhelmed by the amount of positive feedback he had received following the Championship’s conclusion on Saturday.
While the results of an official feedback survey won’t be known for some time, Milo believed the statements there would match what he had heard all week in regards to Sportsworld and the city of Dubbo as a whole.
On top of the new courts at the indoor centre, things like accommodation and activities away from the game were also considered by Cricket Australia and Milo said Dubbo ticked all those boxes.
“When going to a regional town that doesn’t have the opportunity to host significant events or income streams it can probably be better received,” he said.
In terms of the talent on show, Milo has no doubt Dubbo just played host to some future international players.
Victoria were the big winners at the Championships, winning four of the finals on offer.
“It’s certainly the best junior cricket tournament in the world from a standard point of view,” Milo said.
“There’s no doubt some will go on to play BBL or WBBL or represent Australia in the years to come and that’s exciting because there were never as many opportunities to showcase their skills.”
Milo was also full of praise for the local side, the NSW Cyclones, after they finished as the only playing unit to make the semi-finals in every division.
