The club officially named Endeavour Oval’s main field after Don Strachan, an honour which president Donna Roberts bestowed upon him.
Roberts took the crowd on hand, which included a number of Strachan’s family and friends, through the club legend’s career highlights before the official announcement.
In 1947 on his return to the family property, Don was invited to play rugby. Shortly afterwards he and a number of his friends formed the Emus,” Roberts said.
“Don went on to captain his home team from 1953 to 1958. During this time he captained NSW Country from 1953 to 1957, including the 1954 tour of New Zealand.
“After retiring, Don instigated the Central West Rugby Union Referees Association. Don was also president of the association and a referee.”
