The team flew out of Australia last Tuesday and will spend four days between Monday and Thursday at The Ricoh Arena in Coventry competing against top schools from across the world.
The Dubbo team of students Sharik Burgess-Stride, Lucas Blattman, Shiv Ram, Bryce Cronin and Chayan Deb Nath, and teacher John Miller were granted a wildcard to the world event after after finishing a close second in the Australian national competition earlier this year.
The team carried out local fundraising to undertake the journey and was supported by a range of businesses and organisations.
As part of the competition the team had to design, develop and construct their own miniature four-wheel drive, which will be put through its paces during the competition.
They also had to build a pit display, marketing products and develop a folio covering their work on the project.
Dubbo College Senior Campus principal Andrew Jones said Team Zircon would not only represent the College, but the entire community of Dubbo.
“The team has worked very hard to make this trip and our college is very grateful to the large number of local businesses and community organisations which have supported them,” Mr Jones said.
“They are up against the world’s very best school teams and I know they will do us proud and come home with great experience and optimism for the future.
“All the boys are excellent students and role models to younger students in our college and we wish them the very best for the competition.”
