It had previously landed and taken off at Avalon Airport, located 55 kilometres from the centre of Victoria’s capital city.
The airline announced it was on the move to Essendon, located within Melbourne, in June, eight months after starting the Dubbo-Melbourne route.
Jetgo managing director Paul Bredereck said the change would start on Sunday.
“When Jetgo first offered direct jet services from Dubbo to Melbourne there was no space available at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport and Essendon Airport required the installation of security screening services,” he said.
“So Jetgo used Avalon Airport as a temporary measure.
“Unfortunately the approval process for the security screening services took much longer than expected, but finally the wait is over.”
Mr Bredereck said using Essendon - “Melbourne’s most convenient airport” - offered numerous advantages.
“Due to its close proximity to the Melbourne CBD, unparalleled connectivity with surrounding road network and numerous transport options coupled with on-airport amenity offering means Essendon Airport can provide each and every customer with VIP treatment,” he said.
Essendon Airport had constructed a temporary terminal to accommodate Jetgo’s services while the heritage listed Essendon Airport Terminal was undergoing a $20 million refurbishment, Mr Bredereck said.
Once completed in early 2017, the refurbished terminal would help Essendon Airport become Australia’s premier corporate jet and regional services airport, he said.
