Cessnock Sportsground will host a festival of football on Saturday with the under-14 and under-15s Country Championship Finals and Ladies League Tag Finals both being played out.
Group 11 qualified for the under-14s Cup final and the under-15s Plate final after taking out the regional series at Wagga last month.
This weekend will be a much bigger test for both sides, with the 14s set to take on the Central Coast while the 15s side will go to battle with Maitland.
When speaking after his side’s win at Wagga last month, under-14s coach Brett Smith stated he was confident about his team’s chance in the final.
“We will go to Cessnock and give it a good shake,” he said at the time.
“I don’t really think Northern had the same calibre of teams that Southern did so with the preparation we have had, we feel ready.”
Ten local juniors will be in action with Jayden Hyde from South Dubbo and St John’s players Noah Ryan, William Nelson and Nicholas Tighe set to line up for the 14s while St John’s trio Aiden Lake, Tobias Dries and Jarrod Peachey will join South Dubbo’s Randall Dowling, Colby Peckham and Kaleb Kearney in the 15s.
In the Ladies League Tag Final, the East Coast Dolphins will take on the Central Coast Centurions.
Both were hugely impressive when winning semi-finals at Dubbo in May.
