Shanks was voted in during Monday night’s annual general meeting (AGM) after Davis opted to not stand again.
I always said I would do two years and it was then up to them to find a suitable replacement and I think they've got a few there now.
- Mick Davis
Davis stated he was always going to serve just the two years at the top
“He’s more than capable of fulfilling the role,” he said of Shanks.
“Hopefully he can find the time because I know he’s very busy in his business life but if he can then he can more than acquit himself.”
Davis stated the role is tough and often unforgiving.
One of the most pleasing things for him now was that there was a strong board in place underneath Shanks.
Peter Singh has been named as first vice-president and is expected to also be secretary in the short-term until a worthy successor for Glenn Shepherd can be found.
Wendy Herd is second vice president Tom Mitchell remains as treasurer and Adam McKernan is assistant secretary.
Mat Skinner, Scott Russell, David McAlister, Alan Hughes, Grant Berryman,Jordan Moran and Edward Haylock make up the rest of the board.
In terms of his time in the top job, Davis said he was proud of all he had achieved.
“I always said I would do two years and it was then up to them to find a suitable replacement and I think they've got a few there now,” he said.
“I feel I succeeded in opening up third grade for more teams and having new youth schemes in place and also with things like the Facebook group. I wanted to improve communication and I’m happy those goals have been achieved.”
