THE Central West Districts Golf Association got off to a solid start in their first Eric Apperly Shield match of 2016 after earning a draw against Canberra-ACT on Sunday at the Gold Creek Country Club in the nation's capital.

The under -23 tournament pits the best young representative teams in the state against one another.
Dubbo’s Nick Coggan joined Bathurst’s Dylan Thompson, Duntryleague players James Walford, Sam Pasquali and Kel Smith and Mudgee's Zach Kelly at Canberra.
Coggan and Thompson both won their games in the matchplay format while Pasquali and Kelly halved their matches.
Walford was pipped on the final hole of the game against his rival while Smith, the youngest in the team at just 15, put in a credible performance to go down 4-and-3.
The two squads will go head to head once more on July 17 at Bathurst Golf Club for the return leg, where the winner will progress to the quarter-finals of the tournament.
"On paper the Canberra team had a stronger group, their combined handicaps added up to scratch whereas ours added up to about 20," Central West manager and selector Peter Mitchell explained.
"So to do what we did was a big effort and a credit to the boys.”
