Some businesses and households have already connected and are finding out the benefits of the new technology.
The Buchanans were connected more than a fortnight ago and as heavy internet users, they said they had already noticed how much more stable the network was than their previous ADSL.
“We haven’t signed up to the fastest speed but we have noticed that it doesn’t drop out as much,” Kent Buchanan said.
“My son is a gamer and he said there isn’t as much lag and our Netflix runs well so it has been good.”
The body looking after the rollout of the project, also known as nbn, has confirmed that the final sector of the city will be switched on by Thursday.
Dubbo has been divided into seven modules that service the city. Module two, three and that service the CBD, airport, parts of South Dubbo, and the centre of the city were the first to be switched on, while modules one, six and seven that cover the city’s east, south-east and south-west were switched on earlier this month.
The three most recent areas to be switched on utilise the fibre to the node (FTTN) technology, deemed to be inferior to the fibre to the premises (FTTP) method that was used in the first three areas to go live.
There had been confusion by the nbn about whether module four had been turned on, but the company has since confirmed it went live last month.
“Once the remaining areas are switched on at the end of the month the whole of the region will be able to access fast and reliable broadband through either our fixed wireless, fixed line technology or our Sky Muster satellite service,” she said.
People wishing to connect to the NBN should contact a phone or internet service provider, Ms Stevens said.
Fixed Wireless access has already been provided to residents on Dubbo’s outskirts while anyone who can’t access that will be eligible to sign up to the nbn satellite.
