The Rhinos were too good for Parkes, getting out to a 13-5 lead at half-time and surviving a scoreless second half to take the points.
The victory came in horrible conditions at Spicer Oval on Saturday and was greeted with a mix of happiness and relief, according to Rhinos co-coach Darren Taylor.
“We just wanted it more. That was what it came down to and even the Parkes guys admitted that,” he said.
“It’s the win everyone has been waiting eight or nine weeks for but now we just want to keep rolling on.”
The Rhinos scored first through Ricky Wetherall and took a half-time lead thanks to the boot of Chris Hopkins.
Neither team could improve their score in the second half. Chris Bellhouse and Sam McLeod were among the best for Rhinos.
DUBBO RHINOS 13 (Ricky Wetherall try; Chris Hopkins conv, 2 pens) defeated PARKES BOARS 5.
