Saturday’s Group 11 derby was billed as one of the biggest in recent years but by the end of the match there was no doubt that CYMS remain the number one side in Dubbo.

The Fishies weren’t at their best against Macquarie but, in a worrying side for the rest of the competition, they still managed to run out 38-16 winners.
The men in green and white flew out of the blocks and scored two quick tries in the opening seven minutes, both down their left edge, before Macquarie briefly led midway through the first half.
But CYMS got back in front before the break and then scored three tries to one in the second half to run out convincing winners.
“We didn’t look too much into it being a derby but it’s another step for us and it was tough out there,” CYMS captain Luke Jenkins said.
“We were a bit disappointed in the first half, it was a bit slow and our attitude wasn’t where it needed to be but we fixed it up a bit better in the second half and were able to put some points on them and get the win.”
Macquarie won the penalty count 11-4 but had to deal with injuries to Jeremy Smith, Kiyan Shaw and Timoci Yauvoli.
“Losing a centre, a second rower and a hooker and not getting them back threw us a bit but it wasn’t the reason we lost,” Raiders coach Steve McLellan said.
“It made it harder for us to compete but full marks to CYMS, they capitalised when some of our one-on-one defence wasn’t what is required at this level.”
CYMS’ left edge began brilliantly and tries to Alex Ronayne and Hayden Howell saw them lead 8-0 before Macquarie got back in front following converted tries to Shaw and Smith.
Kieran Cubby-Shipp finished off a slick attacking move to get his side back in front and then an Alex Bonham four-pointer had the Fishies leading 20-12 at the break.
The second half failed to hit any great heights but CYMS controlled the match and further tries to Jyie Chapman, Ben Marlin and Matt Toole took the game out of reach.
Macquarie scored a late consolation through Michael Peachey but it was too little too late.
“We’re a long way away, compared to last year and the year before we are a long way away,” Jenkins said in relation to his side’s form.
“We’ve got a bit of work to do but we’ve got another six weeks before semis so there’s time.”
