Western Plains Regional Council’s village street sealing program outlines the timeline for the 45 segments of road to be tarred in Ballimore, Brocklehurst, Eumungerie and Wongarbon across a ten year period.
A total of 50 submissions were received on the draft program, according to the report to council. Of those, 36 were from Wongarbon residents and 14 from Eumungerie.
The Wongarbon submissions included a petition to make Derribong and Railway streets the top priority of the village, and moving Braithwaite Street to a later year. Council acknowledged the residents wishes and changed the program.
Wongarbon resident Nigel Payne- who started the petition- said he was blown away by the changes.
“It’s going to make some residents pretty happy, especially the ones in the first two streets,” he said.
“Both streets were pushed a fair way back, but they’re pretty important to get done.”
It was a positive step taken by council, Mr Payne said, and he was happy the residents had been heard.
Changes have also been made in Eumungerie’s schedule.
Balladoran Street (from Cobboco to Emu) and Emu Street have been brought forward to 2017/18. Meanwhile, two sections of Goonoo will be sealed in 2018/19 instead of one.
Of those who submitted responses on the Eumungerie streets to council, 64 per cent felt Emu Street should be one of the highest priorities, while 79 per cent felt the first section of Balladoran Street should be the first street sealed due to the traffic usage.
Ballimore and Brocklehurst streets have remained the same with Barbijal Street in Brocklehurst scheduled to be sealed in 2016/17, followed by Mara Street in 2018/19.
Administrator Michael Kneipp said the sealing program was a good news story for the smaller communities.
