The Rabbitohs went through the first six rounds of the Group 11 season without a win but scored a breakthrough victory on Friday night under lights against the Wellington Cowboys.
With council closing No. 1 Oval in order to protect the surface during the wet weather, the match was moved to Caltex Park.
The Rabbitohs took some time getting used to their temporary home as the Cowboys shot out to a 10-0 lead but the men in red and green got better as the match and streaked away to win 42-22.
CJ Ralph scored a double while Josh Trindall was impressive in his run-on debut at halfback.
Captain Justin Shillingsworth received plenty of support from the crowd all match following the news he will likely move from Dubbo and not play for the men in red and green again this season.
"A win is a win and that's our first one so it's enjoyable," Dunn said after the match, before praising Shillingsworth.
"Shillo gets three points, man of the match again. We may be missing him soon because he's probably moving on so we're going to have to get another bloke in to replace him."
The match had a far from perfect beginning as both sides made errors in their first set but the Cowboys got back on track and a powerful run from prop Daniel Barrow-Stanley opened the scoring.
Westside were soon down to 12 men following Josh Trindall's sin-binning for a professional foul on Aiden Ryan after the Cowboys fullback had made an 80 minute break.
The Cowboys capitalised on the extra man and scored again through an untouched Kyle West before Westside repsonded immediately in some style.
Ralph toe poked a loose ball through before winning the foot race to the ball, kicking it again and then diving on it in the in-goal.
Jarrin Fernando's conversion made it 10-6 and following Trindall's return to the field they began to get the upper-hand.
The halfback, who shares the nickname of 'Tricky' with his former NRL plasying family member Darrell Trindall, gave the Rabbitohs the kind of direction they have been lacking and hi inside ball to Neville Suey helped give the Rabbitohs the lead.
It was soon 18-10 following a try to Blaize Fuller four-pointer and that's how it stayed until the break.
The sides swapped tries inside the first 15 minutes of the second stanza but six points was as close as Wellington got as the hosts kicked away.
Shillingsworth grabbed a deserved try much to the delight of the crowd while Sam Coe and Ralph scored inside the final ten minutes to seal the result.
"We've got new blokes in there and blokes coming back so we've got to get those combinations working and it's taken us some time to blend together," Dunn said.
"We had a few mistakes early and they did too but the bounce of ball went our way this time.
"It was a bottom of the table clash, we're going to play better sides but we just need those combinations to blend."
DUBBO WESTSIDE 42 ( CJ Ralph 2, Neville Suey, Blaize Fuller, EJ Fernando, Jarrin Fernando, Justin Shillingsworth, Sam Coe tries; Jarrin Fernando 5 goals) defeated WELLINGTON COWBOYS 22 (Daniel Barrow-Stanley, Kyle West, Greg Peckham, Aiden Ryan tries; Lewis Staney 3 goals)
