The winner of our $250,000 Brisbane Carnival Tournament had to wait until the last race of the day to finally break through, ironically after watching one of his rivals (Equus) take a big lead after the very first race of the day.
We had a chat with our $100,000 first prize winner totecrusher after the dust had settled, to find out how his win came to pass, and what his plans are now that he has a six-figure bank balance.
TopBetta: Now that it's all settled in, how does it feel to know you've won $100,000?
Totecrusher: It's an incredible buzz. I haven't wiped the smile off my face for days. It was pure adrenaline at its finest when I saw the updated leaderboard after the final race.
TB: We can imagine. When we called you after the race, you said you had a couple of mates in the tournament as well? Were you together or playing separately?
TC: Yeah, a few mates play the tournament as well with their own ticket, and our rule is if one of us win, we give each other a small chop out from the winnings.
It's good fun talking to mates about what bets you are thinking about.
TB: So you still essentially play your own game?
TC: Yes – totally.
TB: We saw you have a very big bet on Del Prado in the 7th at Flemington. If it had won you would have had $1.9million at that point and may well have been leading.
How did you feel when it didn't come off?
TC: Yeah, I tried to attack that race as I thought it was good value.
Fortunately, one of my savers in the race, Jacquinot Bay, won and I was still alive because I was chips all in.
Have to admit, I was angry when Del Prado was blocked for a run for most of the straight, but that's racing.
TB: Best saver of all time.
So, after that close call, why did you decide to go all in on the last? You were looking at good prize money at the time.
Was it purely "you were in it to win it"? Or did Provocative look unbeatable to you and you just had to do it?
TC: Well, to be honest, I had a good tip earlier in the week for Provocative and it came down to the Queensland Oaks being the last race so I thought “This is it. I’ll have a crack at Provocative and have some small savers just in case.”
But it won and the rest is history.
I wasn't in the tournament to play passive.
I had a few re-buys in the previous weeks and to win these big ones you have to go hard at the right time.
TB: Have you ever won anything like this before? What are you going to do with the $100,00?
TC: Not too sure yet, but we are looking at some nice holiday destinations to go to as we speak.
TB: Very nice.
So, what do you think of TopBetta's tournaments? We are fairly sure you're a fan - but what do you like most about them?
And will we expect you to be a player in our next big tournament? You'll have a bullseye on you this time around no doubt.
TC: I've been playing them since the very early days of TopBetta, right back to when you started.
They are fantastic value.
The chance of winning this sort of prizemoney with a bank of your own is very, very small and the run-down of prizemoney TopBetta offer is fantastic.
It can only get bigger and better - I can't wait for the next big one.
I’ll be a part of all the big ones coming up.
These tournaments, I believe are the way forward in gambling for the future generations to come.
TB: Great to hear.
Well on behalf of TopBetta, congratulations again. It was a hell of an effort, especially as Equus threw down the challenge early.
Enjoy your holiday and we look forward to seeing you in action again later in the year.
TC: No worries, cheers.
