The Royal Flying Doctor Service recently announced the construction of an $18 million facility to be constructed at Dubbo City Regional Airport.
Included in the facility would be a full flight simulator for the Beechcraft King Air 200b aircraft and aeromedical training facilities.
In order to progress with development the RFDS sought reservation of the land from Western Plains Regional Council.
Council approved the decision in principal and will now make provisions to subdivide the land for the future long-term lease to the RFDS.
In a report to council, airport operations manager Lindsay Mason said the RFDS would shortly provide a development application to council for the project, with a view to commencing construction in October 2016.
"The site chosen measures approximately 38,000 metres-squared and will cover land to the north of Echo Taxiway," he said.
The cost of the subdivision, such as the lodgement, council's legal fees and survey costs will be paid by the RFDS.
Council will construct the road and provide utility connections for the project, as well as the Rural Fire Service refilling station and pad.
