The dashing winger scored three tries in the first half and coasted in for a trio in the second.
"I wasn't expecting to score three more in the second half. I didn't know it a was club record," he said.
Widders said after a slow start his side began to put it together.
"We were down a bit early and just couldn't get it happening but we talked about getting up and we did in the end," he said.
The match was marred by some spiteful incidents with the referee forced to sin bin four players at various times throughout.
The Cowboys had plenty of football early and banked their possession well when hooker Trent Forrest surged over from dummy half.
It has been a long season for Wellington and this performance was better and for 22 minutes they held Macquarie out, but Widders used a vulnerable hole in the Wellington's left side defence to score and it was all level.
A long delay caused by a bad elbow injury to Wellington's Daniel Ahsee held up the match for half an hour and then all of a sudden the pain got even greater for the Cowboys.
Widders was in two more times before the half-time whistle on the back of a sweeping move on the left again and just before time was easily into open space to give Dubbo Macquarie a 16-8 buffer at the break.
A terrible blunder from Wellington's fullback from a high ball gave Macquarie instant success a minute into the second half and a series of sin bins hit both teams hard.
Viliame Turuva made the most of the open ground and sizzled into a gap to score.
Widders was in for his fourth off a break up the middle and an all-in brawl certainly didn't help but from there it was all one-way traffic.
The score line expanded as Widders opened up the Cowboys for his fifth and sixth tries, setting the club record as the Raiders piled on 38 points in second half to secure a comfortable but at times tough victory.
