On the night of the first Western Plains Regional Council Mr Dickerson's Facebook page was flooded with comments about why he had not been included on the new advisory committee.

The former mayor was a vocal opponent of the amalgamation and said he did that because the community in Dubbo was against it.

"I would be disappointed if anybody was not included because they were exercising their democratic right and what they were doing was right for the community and represented their community," he said.

"Really everything I said during the whole debate was for my community, they simply wanted no part of an amalgamation and people voted against that.

"I would be disappointed if I was penalised for doing the right thing and representing the community."

Voters will now have to wait until September of next year for a democratic election of its councillors.

The former Dubbo mayor says he's unlikely to enter the race.

''It's a long time away, it's almost a year and a half," he said.

"Sixteen months is along away.

"If I had to make a decision right now I would have to leave up to new blood.

"I have been there for 12 years, I certainly put my heart and soul into it and i think I did a good job as mayor.''

There is a push on social media and on the ground in Dubbo for Mr Dickerson to go into state politics and challenge the current state MP.

''Three years is a lot longer away," he said.

"I think the state government has decided on this because it's three years to the next state election.

"They probably think people will forget about it.

"A lot will change in the next three years but I will assess what I want to do in the future.

"If there was a state election held tomorrow I would stand as an independent.

"The independents who been in Dubbo before have stood up and fought tooth and nail for the electorate ."

Eight former councillors from Dubbo and Wellington were elected on the advisory panel.

Missing are former mayors in Dubbo's Allan Smith, Wellington's Mark Griggs and Dubbo councillor Greg Mohr with a combined half a century of civic duty.

The former mayor says he is pleased with the four from Dubbo but said more with long term experience could have been included.

''I had a talk with the administrator on May 12 when the announcement was made he said he was very impressed with Dubbo and the job I had been doing over the last four or five years, he was very impressed with the role I had done as mayor and was impressed with my leadership and actually asked whether I was keen to be involved going forward.

"I told him I had put my application in and ticked every box.

"But he didn't include me.''

Mr Dickerson says he doesn't know if the decision were political as they had to be approved by the state government.
