The Raiders have enjoyed a huge turnaround this year and currently sit equal-second on the Group 11 ladder, just two points behind leaders CYMS.
Macquarie's one loss this season came away to the Fishies in the opening round and Smith said maintaining the unbeaten record at home is something his side is focusing on.
"Some teams are hard to beat at home so if we can win all ours at home then we'll be up there," he said, before speaking about this weekend's opponents.
"I know they have a lot of players who come in and out, especially because of working on the railway, but I don't think the points they've had scored against them are justified.
"CYMS put a few on them last week but they're a better side than that and they'll want to come out well and try and knock us off."
The Cowboys have only scored 52 points this season, the least of any side, while the 194 points they have conceded is more than any other side.
Smith and his Raiders teammates have only allowed 72 points against this season
"We're not so worried about our attack and we know if we've got our defence together we can win games," he said.
"We did extra work on it (in pre-season) and there's just a different mindset.
"Steve (coach Steve McLellan) said we needed to do more work on defence and that's what we've done."
While the defence is extremely disciplined and structured, Smith stated that is not the case so much with the attack.
From the former Western Rams hooker, to halves Josh Merritt and Etuate Gusuivalu and fullback Damien Wells, the Raiders are packed with players who can break a game open and score points.
"It's good and we've got away from too much structure and it's more free-flowing footy," Smith explained.
"It's been easy at training and we don't have to think too much, we've just got those few things we need to work on each game."
The action at Caltex Park on Sunday begins with the Ladies League Tag at 11am with the first match scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm.
