The telecommunication company's north western region manager Michael Marom said three antennas would be removed from the station located at 61 Geurie Street, Geurie.
The new installation would include six panel antennas and six twin tower mounted amplifiers, plus ancillary equipment.
"It's good news for Geurie," Mr Marom said.
"The mobile tower has 2G and 3G coverage and we are looking to upgrade that to 4G.
"The work will increase the capacity of the tower when it comes to data speeds and provide better continuity for voice calls as well."
Mr Marom said Telstra's standard approach in all major upgrades was to consult with communities and councils to ensure any concerns were addressed.
"We are currently going through a viability exercise," he said.
"When that is complete we will go into a community consultation period.
"At this stage the work in Geurie is listed for the coming financial year. We will be looking to consult with the community some time after July."
Mr Marom said Telstra was constantly reviewing and upgrading services.
"Our intention is to continue to invest very heavily in our mobility network to make sure it is robust, provides greater coverage and maintains a position of superiority to other providers," he said.
"We will continue to upgrade existing infrastructure as well as new infrastructure where it is applicable."
The installation planned for Geurie was regarded as a low-impact facility under the Telecommunications (Low-Impact Facilities) Determination 1997.
