The best players in country NSW will converge on Caltex Park this weekend for the semi-finals of the Country Championships.
Six matches will be played out on Saturday and as well as the best players in the state, officials from the Country Rugby League (CRL) will also be in attendance.
Group 11, which has been working closely with the now defunct Dubbo City Council, are aiming to host what may be the final City-Country representative fixture next year and their official application submission was sent off on Thursday.
McDermott is hopeful a big crowd will turn out on Saturday to further boost the city's chances.
"It's a chance for us to deliver and to show the community supports it so it's a great opportunity for us to showcase," he said.
"The CRL officials will be in attendance and they're the ones who decide City-Country.
"We're sending off our submission today (Thursday) and I'll give Terry Quinn a copy of that on Saturday and it's another great opportunity for us to put our hand up."
A bumper crowd is expected to turn out but McDermott admitted it will be disappointing to see no Western Rams side in action.
Both the Rams' League Tag and senior sides were defeated last weekend but Caltex Park will still play host to a stack of players with NRL or high level representative experience.
"It's close to NRL standard," McDermott said.
"The team that beat the Western Rams had four players with NRL experience and it's a great opportunity for people to see that next level.
"...there's going to be players who wouldn't look out of place in an NRL team."
The highlight of the day will be the two Tier 1 semi-finals with a replay of the thrilling 2015 semi-final between between Newcastle and Canberra sure to be one of the finest rugby league matches to be played in Dubbo this year.
The other Tier 1 semi will see fellow powerhouse side Illawarra take on the Central Coast Centurions.
In Tier 2, the Western conquering Greater Southern Stars side take on the Greater Northern Tigers while Riverina will do battle with the Northern Rivers Rugby League (NRRL).
The Stars are expected to bring fans through the gates with the likes of former NRL players Jacob Loko, Jake Mullaney and Michael Lett in their 17.
The action on Saturday begins at 9am with the two League Tag semi-finals.
The Tier 2 semi-finals follow that before the Tier 1 elimination matches at 2.30pm and 4.15pm.
