Several members of Australia's richest and best-known families will make their debut on this year's BRW Rich List, according to the The Australian Financial Review, which publishes the list.

The AFR says Kerry Packer's daughter Gretel will burst onto the list with an estimated wealth of $739 million, which includes her stakes in Crown Resorts and in her brother James' Consolidated Press Holdings.

A deal between Gretel and James was struck last year to carve up the family's wealth, a decade after their media and casino baron father died in 2005.

Gina Rinehart will be joined on the list this year by her eldest daughter Bianca, the AFR has reported.

The younger Rinehart last year won a bitter legal dispute with her estranged billionaire mother and was appointed trustee of the Hope Margaret Hancock Trust. The trust holds 23.4 per cent of the family's massive Hancock Prospecting mining company.

Gina took out the top spot on the Rich List last year, with a fortune of more than $14 billion.

Meanwhile, Richard Pratt's family shares a combined $10.35 billion spot on the list under his son's name, "Anthony Pratt and family".

But other members of the late packaging king's extended clan have made the list in their own right this year.

Alex Waislitz, who is married to Richard's daughter Heloise, leads the successful Thorney investment group and debuts with an estimated wealth of $1.13 billion.

Pact Group chairman Raphael Geminder, who is married to Richard's other daughter, Fiona, features with an estimated $1.22 billion fortune.

Members of the Rich List have an average age of 66, with 27 aged 80 or older, suggesting there are more battles over family fortunes to come.

The full BRW Rich List will be published in the Australian Review Magazine on Friday.
