A SECTION of the Golden Highway in Dubbo's east was closed for upwards of three hours on Wednesday afternoon due to a suspected gas leak.

The road was first closed at about 12.40pm, with motorists forced to take the detour along Yarrandale Road and Merrilea Road.
The highway was blocked off at Wheelers Lane and the entrance to Kings Park Drive was also blocked off at the corner of Twickenham Drive where the suspected leak occurred.
Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance and Western Plains Regional council all attended the scene, along with workers from a local utility company.
