Andrew Hockey from the Def Chef taught the hospitality students the basics of cooking the dish.
"I'm teaching them when to turn it, how you do it that way, the right and the wrong," he said.
Mr Hockey also demonstrated the proper cutting techniques for the potato chips.
Teacher Cecilia O'Donnell said she wanted the students to specifically learn how to cook steak from a professional chef, as it was a common staple.
"It shows them what it's like in the industry and once they learn the skills here they have the opportunity we hope to go out and find employment," she said.
"We contacted a number of places in the local area and Andrew was one that jumped on board straight away," she said.
Student Sam Barnes said it was good to be taught by a chef, and he was happy to hear steak was on the menu.
