The minister met with former councillor and Binjang chairman Mark Griggs, station manager Tony Graham and local radio stalwart Michael White expressing gratitude for the work the station had done in connecting with its community.
The Binjang 91.5 signal can now move to one kilowatt to better serve its area and he also heard how small business had backed the radio station.
Mr Barilaro said small business had showed at the Men's Shed with its overwhelming support of the two sheds and at the radio station that it powered Wellington's economy.
"Small businesses always give back to their community and they know it's important they return so much," he said.
"People don't see the great work they do in the big end of town. They are the engine of small rural, regional and state economies and the keep the places going.
"It's the mums and dads who have the courage to employ one or two that keeps us moving."
Mr Barilaro toured the local radio station which has 20 volunteers marvelling at the range of technical wizardry in such a tiny place in a small town.
The minister said towns like Wellington could drive, post merger, a new beginning by tapping into the things they do well and the massive digital platform.
"What's changing for us is the whole digital disruption that everyone is talking about," Mr Barilaro said.
"Everybody really has to have a digital platform. There is a great KMPG report which says there is $50billion with a B dollars out there for small business to tap into it if they have that digital connection.
"In regional areas that can be problematic at times because you don't have the NBN yet, you don't have proper mobile phone coverage and that is something we are working on to help with that infrastructure.
"For me it is identifying the strengths and where are the gaps are and its the gaps where the government should be playing a role in, if it's the NBN or mobile blackspots
