Police are speaking to witnesses and appealing for the public to come forward with information about the driver’s antics, which started at 10.45pm.
The driver reportedly sped quickly out of the Kmart underground car park onto Lords Place, cut off another car and then slammed on the car’s breaks.
Canobolas Local Area Command Inspector Dave Harvey said the victims told officers the driver of the Barina then yelled and waved towards them.
The victims said the Barina then sped through a red light at the Summer Street and Lords Place intersection to catch up to their vehicle.
“It appears he has then followed the victims and then driven alongside the victims’ vehicle and was then yelling and waving his hands at the people in the other vehicle,” Inspector Harvey said.
The Barina then drove past the post office and followed the victims past the intersection of Anson Street and Summer Street before accelerating, Inspector Harvey said.
“The red Barina has then collided into the back of the victims’ car.”
Inspector Harvey said the victims and the driver did not know each other.
The victims drove to the Orange police station and were making a report to police when officers heard a “commotion” outside and saw the Barina speed past the police station.
Calls then began coming in to the station from witnesses saying the car was doing burnouts and driving over median strips.
The driver then allegedly sideswiped another vehicle.
Officers followed the car and it allegedly ran through several red lights and was speeding, before coming to rest in an alleyway next to the Central Western Daily building in Kite Street.
The driver had fled the vehicle when officers arrived.
Inspector Harvey said police were investigating the identity of the driver and urged anyone with information to call the station on 6363 6399.
