THE ducks are back and are going to have a quacking good time as part of the city’s Proclamation Day activities on Saturday.

The banks of the Macquarie River will be the place to be at 1pm tomorrow as close to 300 ducks set off down the rapids, all vying for glory.
The Duck Race, hosted by the Rotary Club of Bathurst, is a major fundraising event and one that always proves popular.
The race has a long history in town, though it took a short break last year when the ducks were replaced by a ball and chain race as Bathurst celebrated its bicentenary.
But this year the yellow ducks are back, raring to go.
Race organiser and Rotary member David Weekes said the ducks would enter the water near the pond area up from the low level Hereford Street bridge with the owners of the first three ducks across the line to win some great prizes.
So far 250 ducks will be racing on Saturday, but more are still available for purchase.
“The ducks are $10 each and can be purchased during business hours at council offices, or we will be selling on the day from 10.10am until about 12.30pm,” Mr Weekes said.
“It’s all a bit of fun, the kids love it and every dollar raised goes towards local Rotary charities including a youth program, Daffodil Cottage, Glenray and the RDA.”
Apart from the duck race, Bathurst Regional Council has also organised a number of activities to celebrate Bathurst’s 201st birthday tomorrow.
It starts with a Proclamation Day ceremony at 10am at the Bicentennial Flag Staff and the ann-ouncement of nine new Living Legends for 2016.
“The Living Legends project was introduced last year as a bicentenary project and new names will be added to the list each Proclamation Day and will be honoured with a tree in the Legends avenue on Bradwardine Road,” mayor Gary Rush said.
“Our Living Legends are known and respected for their dedication, determination, personality, their work and their contribution to our city.”
At 11am, new names will also be added to the Pillars of Bathurst project and there will be an opportunity for residents and visitors to discover more of Bathurst’s history by joining a free Delightful Spot tour, hosted by local historians.
