The local Dubbo MTB club reports solid interest throughout its recently completed Super Series season.
"We had a calendar of 27 races this season from August through to April. We had three grades and averaged 21 riders per race," club president Craig Arms said.
"Interest in cycling is booming and we're finding that there is a steady interest in mountain biking locally as well.
"We have riders of all levels, from first-time riders to fit-and-fast riders. We work hard to cater for everybody."
With its latest Super Series season over, the club is now organising some social events to give people the opportunity to try out mountain biking in a friendly and safe environment.
The club will be running its first introductory day from 2pm on Sunday, May 8 at Dundullimal, with a view to holding them monthly until the start of the spring racing calendar.
"Our track at Dundullimal is perfect for beginner riders," Arms said.
"It is open, there are no big hills or descents and you can be seen at every point on the track. It also has lots of corners which is one of the big aspects of MTBing.
"This is not a race, it's just a ride. We're encouraging people to come on over and experience what mountain biking can be like and meet some new people. We'll have experienced riders available to give some tips if you want, but really it's just a Sunday morning ride in the park."
Simone Grounds is one of the club's stronger riders and thinks mountain biking is great fun.
"I started mountain bike riding only recently and I'm now hooked," Grounds said.
"I enjoy the challenge and diversity that MTBing can give you. The local club is very friendly and they work so hard to make riding enjoyable for everyone.
"I know some people may be a little intimidated by the riders, or the tracks or even the racing, I must admit I felt that at first. But, you know what, everyone in this club rides by the same ethos and that's all about encouraging people to ride and just have a go. In fact I find that with MTBing everywhere."
One of the club's up and coming juniors, Haylee Fuller, was awarded the season's Most Improved Rider.
"I love it," she said.
"I like road riding as well, but MTBing gives me the opportunity to do something different. I'd like to try and beat dad one day.''
