The great switch on starts on Wednesday with premises in most of the central business district and parts of north, south and west Dubbo ready to go live - about 4000 of them.
And while householders in other parts of the city may be green with envy, the rest of Dubbo's more than 16,000 premises will have the network by the end of June.
Businesses and residents alike will be celebrating the "go live".
Internet services in Dubbo and the region have been slow, erratic and frustrating across the years.
The patchwork of services included the use of outdated infrastructure and wires in some areas and awfully slow speeds in others.
Some users were right to feel it would have been quicker to communicate by carrier pigeon. Others were forced to shell out big dollars each month to access better service.
Along the way, the federal government changed and so did the NBN plans. The Coalition government scaled back spending drawing much criticism over predicted service, quality and speeds.
The NBN Co has been pushing ahead with the roll out of the infrastructure to support the network in the past year and is ahead of its original schedule. Good work.
Mayor Mathew Dickerson has praised Parkes Federal MP Mark Coulton for his work, supported by the council, in pushing the NBN for Dubbo.
Today the NBN. Tomorrow ? The mobile black spots.
