A MAN who led police on a pursuit through the streets of Coonabarabran earlier this week was arrested and charged after he allegedly tried to flee the vehicle.

At 1.15pm on Tuesday Coonabarabran highway patrol were patrolling the Newell Highway, south of Coonabarabran, when an orange Holden Captiva was detected travelling at speed towards Coonabarabran.
Highway patrol attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated.
Police pursued the driver through John, George, Knight, Short, Masman and Nandi streets at Coonabarabran where the driver continued to circulate those streets at speed.
The driver dumped the vehicle and allegedly fled on foot over a number of fences and through a number of houses and backyards. Police attached to highway patrol, detectives and general duties pursued the driver on foot where he was arrested a number of blocks away in the rear yard of a house in Cowper Street.
The driver, a 30-year-old Coonabarabran man, was charged with police pursuit, not stop, drive at a speed dangerous (Skye's Law), drive whilst disqualified second and subsequent offence, hinder police and trespass. The driver was refused bail and appeared in Dubbo Bail Court on Wednesday morning.
