With the likes of Part Of Me and Love Lord locked in to run during the finals, Kirby was back at Dawson Park on Thursday and saw his classy bitch Eveready Girl take out the Glen Gallon At Stud Stakes (516m).
It was Eveready Girl's first attempt at more than 400m in quite some time and she proved she was more than up to the challenge as she got to the lead early and never looked back.
"She's been going 400m runs her last two starts and today was her first 500 for a fair while and came up with a good box and I thought she had to win it," Kirby said, before saying he was feeling good once she got to the lead.
"Pretty confident, she is fairly strong so there was never any worries and no one got close to her so it was fine."
Things didn't go quite as smooth for Turbo Monkey ($8.50) and Teebone Tim ($5.80), who came in contact with each other at the first corner and found themselves out of contention.
By that stage Eveready Girl ($3.20) was already out in front by three lengths while Nitro Monkey ($4.40) and Nancy Keeping ($4.50) battled it out for second.
The race was as good as over by the time they turned for home and Eveready Girl went on to win by five-and-a-quarter-lengths from Nitro Monkey while Nancy Keeping ended up a further three lengths back.
After seeing such a pleasing run, Kirby hinted he may keep Eveready Girl to more races over the 500m.
In terms of Sunday's rich finals, Kirby played down his chances with all of the finals attracting some high quality fields.
"We've got a few in for the finals, I think they might be too fast for us but we're in there so we're a chance."
Kirby will have four chances with Part Of Me leading the way in the $30,000 Gold Cup while Love Lord will run in the Sires On Ice Gallipoli Stakes, Exacerb ated in the Slouch Hat and Spirit Walker in the Future Stars Final.
Sunday's finals begin from 5.47pm on Sunday.
