The rich April Carnival kicked off on Monday night and Tuesday afternoon with a number of heats in the lead-up to Sunday's bumper day of finals.
The highlight was no doubt the blistering run of the Raymond Smith-trained Brad Hill Billy on Monday night while on Tuesday Paul and Pamela Braddon continued their hot run of form with a string of winners.
The Braddons took out the first four races of the day on Tuesday, two of the Slouch Hat heats and two of the Sires On Ice Gallipoli heats.
The first of those winners was Layla Swift, trained by Paul Braddon, who showed she is back to best after a fall at the track last month.
Layla Swift ($2.90 favourite) was locked in a firm battle with Another Trooper ($9.20) but went on to win by a length from her favoured box seven.
"She wants outside, she's not comfortable inside and she likes to ping out and go," Pam Braddon said.
"Then she'll come in to the rails but she doesn't prefer the wider draws."
The win was Layla Swift's 11 from 27 starts.
"She just couldn't get off the one (Another Trooper), she wanted to get off and the one wanted get on so it was a bit of a debate there," Braddon laughed.
"But she's done well and is obviously over the fall she had a while back."
That race was followed by wins to Susie Willow, the in-form Bundarra Magic and Hope's A Chance, all from the Braddon's Cowra kennels.
While it was the Braddons up in lights on Tuesday, Monday night belonged to Smith and Brad Hill Billy.
Coming off a recent second-placed finish in the famed $352,000 Golden Easter Egg, all eyes were on the champion and he showed them just how classy he is.
A renowned slow starter, Brad Hill Billy ($1.90 favourite) jumped third but quickly got past All A Blaze ($4.40) and began forming a dominant lead.
He went on to win by five-and-three-quarter lengths in a time of 29.30 seconds, .3 of a second faster than the old mark.
The racing action continues on Thursday afternoon with more heats and semi-finals.
