THE time has come for Orange Wanderers to start putting it all together.
In their four men’s Premier League Hockey games so far in 2016 the Wanderers have shown promising signs, glimpses of their potential and exciting attacking capabilities.
They’ve still only won a single game though, and are coming off a 7-1 drubbing at the hands of Bathurst Souths last weekend.
“It’s just the basics really, the basics have let us down,” skipper Alex Said explained.
“In saying that it is a long season and we haven’t put the same team on the field yet, we had a few guys out last week, so that’s one other thing we need to improve on.
“We need to get some more consistency in our side and have everybody playing their roles, doing their job and what they need to do.”
Wanderers head to the Lithgow on Saturday to take on Zig Zag, a side with two wins, a draw and a loss from their opening four match-ups.
Although the Orange side will be without co-coach Matt Johnson and front-man Keegan Brooke, Said remains confident of his troops coming together, meeting their expectations and handing Zig Zag their second loss in the process.
They will need to outmuscle the Lithgow side to do so though.
“You have to be (confident),” he said.
“Zig Zag are normally a very physical side, last year when we played them we ended up with two blokes out for several weeks.
“So we need to muscle up and be ready to take a few hits and shoves. We have a lot of young guys in the side, so no doubt Lithgow will try to exploit that with their physicality.
“Our youngers just need make sure they don’t get put off by that and be willing to take those hits as well.
“If we can do those things I think we can go down there and come away with a win.”
Wanderers take on Zig Zag from 2.40pm, in Lithgow.
