The two-year-old went close to recording a debut win when finishing second at the track last week but there was no doubts on Thursday as he cruised to a seven-and-a-half-length win in the Greyhounddata.com.au Maiden (318m).
After getting to the front well early on there was never any doubt about the result as Montfort ($3.20) got home well ahead of Inside Ellie ($9.60) while Don't Cry Baby ($34.90) was a further half-a-length back in third.
"He should have won last start but got into a bit of strife on the turn but he's a handy dog with a lot of promise so we're very glad how we went," O'Brien said.
"To get the maiden out of the road is a big thing but he's got plenty in him and he's only a young dog and hopefully there's bigger things to come."
Montfort's trainers, Dylan and Paul O'Brien, are only novices compared to a lot of others in the game but both are aware they have a talent on their hands.
He trialled well at the Dubbo track last month to give an idea of his talent and that was confirmed in Friday's win.
"I don't think he's the smartest dog I've ever had but he's definitely the fastest," O'Brien said.
"Hopefully we can get him up to 500 metres and get him running some pretty quick times, but whether he can handle it or not is a different matter.
"It should be good and exciting and he's only our fourth dog we've been racing.
"We've had a few winners with our other dogs, but they were all injury prone so hopefully he can stay fit and healthy and we can have a lot of fun."
While the field jumped evenly, Montfort soon got to the lead after getting out from box six.
He was quickly out to a five-length lead while the only doubts were about the make up of the minor places.
"His run homes are a lot better than his first sections so he just needs a bit of luck at the start and then he can do a lot of things," O'Brien said.
Montfort's win was in the second race of the afternoon, following on from Nangar Lass' victory in the opening event, the Smooth Fancy At Stud Maiden (516m).
Nangar Lass, a hot $1.60 favourite, showed her class as she cruised to a two-and-three-quarter length win.
The Dennis Barnes-trained bitch didn't jump the best in the small field of just four dogs but she soon got to the lead and never looked back.
Shelley Keeping ($2.50) was second for Charmaine Roberts while the Robert Ingram-trained Bryden Kinny ($6.80) was third.
