Organising committee member Ann-Maree Chandler said of those who attended, 400 were children aged as young as five.
"Our oldest person was a woman who was 70 and she completed almost all of the obstacles unassisted - she ran with her daughter in a large team," Ms Chandler said.
"Agewise, the next person was 64. All states and territories were represented and there were 142 teams, including a team of over 30 from Mudgee."
Ms Chandler said the mud run was a massive event for Dubbo.
"It's gotten bigger each year and has attracted an increasing number of sponsors and interstate participants. People definitely travel a long way to take part in it," she said.
"All in all it's about getting people out of their comfort zone and even though they thought they couldn't do it, they did and they're now saying they want to come back and do it again next time."

Volunteer numbers had also grown, Ms Chandler said, with more than 100 helping to prepare and oversee the event on both adult and children's courses.
"The feedback we got from some competitors was some thought they couldn't do it and went into it under pressure but faced their fears and came through.
"Some had a fear of heights, while one woman was telling me she had OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder).
"All in all it's about getting people out of their comfort zone and even though they thought they couldn't do it, they did and they're now saying they want to come back and do it again next time."
Ms Chandler said a rope and wall towards the end was without doubt the most challenging aspect of the adult course.
"Only eight competitors completed it without assistance," Ms Chandler said.
She said the committee would hold a debrief session to discuss how the event could be made even bigger and better next year.
"We'd welcome suggestions as to how funds from the event can be used to help promote healthy lifestyles in Dubbo," Ms Chandler said.
"Over the past two years we've helped fund putting steps into the Macquarie River, a fitness area, extending the running track around the river and a shelter at Ollie Robbins Oval.
"From this year's event we'll also donate $5 from every child's registration to the Give Me 5 For Kids charity. We're also contributing $2 from each person who used the bag drop to the Pink Angels. That made about $600 last year and we're hoping for a similar amount this year."
