Held at the Geurie Sports Ground, the event will this year showcase some of the best stock in the country as well as Australian championship competitors.

Rodeo committee president Greg Frewin said the event would feature top quality cowboys and cowgirls from Australia.

"Our first rodeo was successful last year, but it will be bigger and better in 2012," he said.

The best bucking horses and bulls from Wagga Wagga and Gilgandra will be at the rodeo, with many having already travelled across Australia.

Horse 'Rambling Angel', thought to be the best bareback horse in the country, will also be featured at the event.

"I predict there will be a good crowd this year because of the amount of interest from the Geurie community. I've had phone calls from places like Bathurst and other parts of NSW, indicating people's interest in the rodeo.

"The community has been very active in pushing to improve the sports ground facilities. The town has great funds to upgrade the grounds, which will attract more events," Frewin said.

Events like the recent Geurie Golden Bit Campdraft and its success has helped generate interest in the rodeo. Last year's inaugural event was the first of its kind in more than 30 years.

"The Geurie Rodeo is for people all over the country.

"The prize money is $12,000, which will be awarded to winners of the 12 events," Frewin said.

Events include junior steer riding, a novice bull ride and a bronco ride, and each winner of the events will receive $1000 or more, depending on the stock.

Frewin said that the weather would be in their favour today, which would hopefully bring more people to the Geurie Sports Grounds.

The entry fee to the Geurie Rodeo is $80. The junior timed events will start from 9am, and the bucking stock events will kick off at 2pm.

The Geurie Sports Ground can be found on Comobella Road.

The rodeo will finish about 5.30pm.
