Emergency services were called to Gundong Road, Obley, about 2pm after reports the plane had crashed on a rural property.
The plane was still on fire when officers arrived. Police reported a man was dead inside.
Wellington Rural Fire Services and SES fire and rescue trucks attended the scene.
Police from Dubbo Local Area Command and Wellington rushed to the crash site and cordoned off the scene.
Police were investigating the crash and released no further details.
THURSDAY 10/3: Emergency services are responding to reports of a light plane crash in the state’s central west on Thursday.
Just before 2pm, emergency services were called to Gundong Road, Obley, about 25km south of Dubbo, following reports a light plane had crashed on a rural property.
On arrival officers located the plane alight. Further inspection of the aircraft revealed one man deceased inside.
Police from Dubbo Local Area Command are currently on scene and an investigation has commenced.
