The Dubbo mayor Mathew Dickerson's song, which he uploaded to his Facebook page on February 24, has since been on Mashable, Buzzfeed, ninemsn, Yahoo7! News and Triple M.
There has also been a remix of the film clip.
The lyrics include: "they want to merge, it makes no sense, they aren't hearing our defence. Our rates will go way up high. Democracy will go bye-bye. Dubbo and Wello. We'll stand alone."
Writing on the Mayor of Dubbo Facebook page one commenter said: "love his passion anyway maybe not so much his singing".
Another wrote "that's gold!!! Thinking you could be the support act next weekend at red hot summer tour!!".
One person said they were waiting for an "anti-organics waste bin for Dubbo song".
NoDubbington is a bit of fun, but when he released it Cr Dickerson said he hoped it would bring more awareness to the amalgamation.
"It's just a silly little kids song and Dubbington is a silly name, but the whole idea of an amalgamation between Dubbo and Wellington is silly," Cr Dickerson said.
"The whole point of it is to encourage submissions. We don't have enough. I did get a number and I'm not allowed to say what it is, but in my opinion it's not high enough."
